Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching: How It Can Be a Game-Changer For Eating Disorder Recovery

Eating disorder recovery coaching (alongside eating disorder therapy) helped me so much in my own past recovery from an eating disorder, which is why my practice offers coaching with our amazing recovery coaches.

I believe that eating disorder recovery coaching can truly be a game-changer when it comes to recovery, providing additional support (including email or text support between sessions), recovery tools and tips, and action oriented recovery strategies.

The Difference Between Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching and Therapy:

• Recovery coaching focuses on changing behaviors and building a life outside of your eating disorder. It encourages self-compassion, body acceptance, and food freedom.
• Coaching utilizes a present-focused, goal-setting and skill-based approach to push through limiting beliefs and behaviors.
• Recovery coaching is available to individuals around the world via Zoom video chat.
• We typically require coaching clients to be working with a therapist. Coaching can be an amazing added support to therapy. However, coaching can be a stand-alone approach for someone with subclinical disordered eating or body image issues, or for someone further along in their recovery.
• Coaches do not diagnose or develop clinical treatment plans, and tend not to delve too much into "underlying issues" which are best addressed in therapy. Coaching is more present focused.
• Coaching includes a weekly (or more!) 50 minute session, as well as between session text or email support (some of our therapists do as well).

• Our eating disorder recovery coaches all have backgrounds as therapists, but work with us in the coaching capacity. They have additional training in eating disorders and coaching skills. So, they are highly experienced.

• They are health at every size (HAES) informed and intuitive eating informed. 
• They will collaborate with your treatment team.
• Many of them are either personally recovered from an eating disorder or have supported a loved one in recovery.
• They have years of experience in working with clients with eating disorders.
