About Megan
Megan Samuels, MSW, LCSW-C, is a trauma therapist in Rockville, Maryland, who specializes in working with adolescents and adult survivors of trauma — including complex trauma, medical trauma, relational trauma, perinatal trauma, and physical and sexual trauma. She also specializes in working with individuals struggling with dissociation or dissociative disorders. She offers therapy in person in Rockville, Maryland and virtually to individuals in Maryland.
Megan previously worked for years at an outpatient trauma therapy center providing therapy to survivors of trauma. She also ran a dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) skills group. Megan is skilled in providing eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which is a highly evidence-based treatment for symptoms of trauma. She completed EMDR basic training, as well as EMDR advanced training. Her EMDR advanced training courses included advanced skills for treating complex trauma and dissociation. Additionally, Megan attended the EMDRIA conference where she took a variety of courses, including transforming traumatic memory with EMDR, practical applications of the polyvagal theory in EMDR therapy, and utilizing EMDR during pregnancy. She is also currently pursuing certification in EMDR therapy. She also has completed training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), ego state therapy for trauma, polyvagal theory, and relational therapy. Furthermore, Megan values collaboration and is happy to talk with psychiatrists, doctors, dietitians, school counselors, or parents to support the healing process. |
My Approach
I tailor my approach for each individual client, however I particularly enjoy using elements of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), ego state interventions, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and relational therapy. I also use my passion, empathy, and sense of humor to create a safe environment for clients to explore and heal.
I know that the thought of starting trauma therapy may feel scary. However, I am committed to working with clients at a pace that feels comfortable and empowering. As a trauma trained clinician, I will never push you to share anything that you do not feel ready to process. I also believe that you are in the driver’s seat in terms of your healing journey. Additionally, I enjoy incorporating nervous system regulation and education as an important part of trauma therapy.
No matter what kind of trauma you have experienced, your experience of trauma and the impact that it has on your life is valid. You deserve treatment and healing.
In my work with trauma survivors, I strive to create a warm and nurturing environment for clients to heal from their pasts and improve their lives. I believe in a collaborative approach to care and enjoy working alongside other treatment providers and loved ones.
Being a trauma therapist is my passion. There is nothing better than helping clients transform their lives and heal following trauma.
*I am taking on a limited number of new therapy clients. If spots are full, I am happy to refer you to another clinician or put you on a wait-list.
“Megan is a genuine and compassionate therapist that is dedicated to helping her clients in their therapeutic journey. Through working alongside Megan, I've witnessed her consistently go the extra mile, whether it's through obtaining further training with treating trauma, follow-up calls to coordinate care with other providers, or providing additional resources. Her commitment to helping individuals overcome eating disorders and trauma is exemplary. Megan's clients not only receive expert therapy but a trusted ally on their journey to recovery."
