Frequently Asked Questions
Can people with eating disorders fully recover?
Certainly! Complete recovery from an eating disorder is definitely achievable. Our committed team has helped numerous clients on their paths to recovery, and we are truly enthusiastic about the work we engage in.
what age range of clients do you treat?
We provide therapy services for teens and adults. Eating disorders can impact people at any age, as they are not selective.
what kinds of eating disorders do you treat?
We treat many different eating disorders. This includes anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, orthorexia, compulsive exercise, ARFID, negative body image, and OSFED. We also provide treatment for co-occurring disorders, including OCD and mood disorders.
Do I have to be diagnosed before starting therapy?
No, a diagnosis isn’t required. If you’re experiencing difficulties with food or body image, we’d love to help. You don’t need to meet the criteria for an eating disorder to receive support. However, if needed, we can assess whether you meet the criteria for an eating disorder or other mental health conditions.
what therapy modalities do you use?
Generally, our therapists use a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). When appropriate, we also apply Family-Based Therapy (FBT-informed) for younger clients. Our team is knowledgeable about the Health at Every Size (HAES) framework and the principles of intuitive eating. Furthermore, some therapists incorporate Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) in their practice.
what if i'm scared to recover?
We understand that beginning the recovery journey can be daunting. Many of our team members have either experienced recovery from an eating disorder themselves or have supported a loved one through it. It's perfectly normal to feel apprehensive about recovery and to seek assistance. You don’t have to face this challenge on your own.
am i "sick enough" to have an eating disorder?
If you notice yourself obsessing over food and weight, understand that you are "sick enough" and absolutely worthy of pursuing treatment and support.
what should i do if i'm worried about a loved one?
